Model-based design (MBD)
AutoCAD contains a partial model-based design (MBD) engine, which was initially introduced as a feature in AutoCAD 2000, and was subsequently included in AutoCAD XPress, and then later in AutoCAD 2007. AutoCAD’s MBD was designed from the ground up with data management in mind, providing a framework for creating and maintaining datasets used in the design process. It was first released on AutoCAD 2008.

By default, datasets are organized into a hierarchy structure called a Collection. This can contain other Collections, which in turn contain other Collections.
