Can Tinder Be Used For Serious Relationships 🔗

In a new study from The Journal of Sexual Medicine, researchers found that men who frequent hookup apps have a more active sex drive, are happier with their sex lives, and have more sex than men who do not use the apps. Those who use hookup apps are also more likely to be satisfied with their relationships, according to the study, which was led by Brendan Wood from the University of Michigan.
A hookup app can be a double-edged sword, though. For one thing, since these apps are meant to be used for sex, that means you could potentially end up with someone who isn’t actually right for you — or worse, someone who could potentially hurt you in the long run. This is also a time to be very cautious about disclosing your real thoughts and feelings (so you don’t disappoint the person you’re sleeping with).
As Dr. Lauren Streicher points out on a frequently asked question page on HustleDate.com (a discreet, casual sex hookup app), being aware of the natural side effects of casual sex, including painful intercourse, genital soreness, and missing periods, can prevent some long-term problems. She notes that recovery from a casual relationship is much longer than from a monogamous one.
“Risky sex increases feelings of intimacy, so it might actually make you feel closer to someone — however this may only happen when you both enjoy doing it,” says Streicher. “When you experience feelings of pleasure and connection during sexual activity, it’s a good indicator that there’s something special between you two.” That’s why it’s super important to have realistic expectations about casual sex. You’re not looking for a long-term partner, and therefore, it’s important to be cautious to not invest too much in your new sex partner.
Alcohol
Streicher goes on to note that alcohol consumption among casual sex partners can increase the chances of spreading STDs, pregnancy, and more. This is primarily due to the use of marijuana and alcohol while having sex, which can be a huge turnoff for some.
On the other hand, alcohol consumption is almost a requirement to enjoy casual sex. Drinking can actually boost your libido and stimulate sexual activity, and that can definitely help you to enjoy yourself and know that casual sex isn’t a sin.
Alcohol’s also a great way to socially lubricate your sex life — and make sure that this hookup doesn’t turn to drama when your significant other goes home. It’s true that drinking can make your sex

A new study out of Northwestern University says yes, casual sex is apparently worse for your health than casual dating. The study tracked the daily activity of 5,000 students at the university and found that being single had a more negative health impact than having sex.

The researchers note that the students who were single, versus in a committed relationship, were: less likely to exercise; more likely to eat fast food; more likely to get drunk; and more likely to use substances. When the team began tracking their students in 2009, over 70 percent of the participants were single, but by 2013, this number had dropped to 64 percent. So what does this mean?
The researchers are pretty clear that hookup culture — which they define as “non-serious” sex with “infrequent, casual and non-committed partners” — is a bad thing.

“Partnering for non-serious purposes is probably bad for your health, even in non-high-risk groups, which the sample used,” says Justin Garcia, co-author of the study. “We found that partnering for a non-serious purpose is associated with less physical activity, more alcohol use and more smoking.”
But, of course, being single isn’t always about hookups. It’s also about being single and single and single.

“People who are single often decide to be in that situation,” says Garcia. “For individuals who are not single, it’s often because they are dating, not because they are single.”
The study comes as many millennials and Generation Xers are looking for sex. As the dating pool decreases, what’s being produced on dating apps is becoming more than just a fascination for sex. Some apps have changed their standards to better fit what people are looking for — like Tinder’s new A-to-B swipe options.
Interestingly, the data also showed that how sexually active you were didn’t seem to have as much of an impact on your health — even if that activity included hookup apps. For example, students who reported no activity on Hookup for the Study had a lower mortality rate than those who reported any sex, no matter how casual.
