As far as I know and I’ve built my own data science stuff, there’s nothing built in with the JVM. Either if you like SciKit or if you’re using the various R libraries. There are some packages like RKlib and JRI that can also be used in Java.
In terms of working on distributed systems, I’ve heard good things about Spark. I’m not sure of its capabilities, but if you want to get started, you can download the source ( and look at the scala examples in the /examples folder or even the ones in the scala-library folder.
