## Working with an Image Preview

The basic way to work with images in Photoshop is to work directly on the image window, called the _photoshop image_ ( on the keyboard). You get a preview image of the image that you are editing, which is displayed on the screen (Figure 2-2) and is actually a raster image created by Photoshop, not an image-capturing device (such as a digital camera). Photoshop enables you to easily open and work on the image in the context of its layers. You can control which layers are visible and which are invisible and even create new ones.

The tab for each layer is displayed in the Layer Properties palette, as shown in Figure 2-3. You can manipulate layers by using this tab to control which layers are visible and which are not, as well as control their visibility, order, and visibility.

The top of the image window also displays the status of the image being edited. Currently, you see the image at 100% opacity, which is the standard for working with the image. When you select a color (using the Eyedropper tool, for example), the image is updated to reflect the selected color, as shown in Figure 2-4.

The area of the image window that you see onscreen, called the _crop box,_ is where you see the changes you make to the image. If you are starting to edit an image, you can view it onscreen and see how your work affects the changes, as shown in Figure 2-5.

You can see in this example that the cropping effect has been applied and that the image is seen at a reduced size, as seen in Figure 2-6. You can change the size of the image by using the Zoom tool (Z) in the top-right corner of the screen, as shown in Figure 2-7.

The Export feature allows you to save an edited picture in different formats. You can get an image with all the edits you made to it, the full version of a picture with all the edits you made, or the reduced version of a picture with most of the edits removed.

Advanced Mode

When you start the program, you will see the Photoshop Elements Preview Box with the tools it offers.

The Box is a great way to organize and edit images, and is also available for all your photos.

With the Advanced Mode, you get almost all the tools of the program. However, to use it, you need to have a license for Photoshop Elements.

It contains all the features of the menu in the Preview Box except for the Tools and Filters categories.

Editing Toolbox

The editing toolbox is the most important part of Photoshop Elements. It contains many basic editing tools such as Image Manipulation, Artistic, Text, and Retouching.

The best thing about the toolbox is that all the tools are designed in an intuitive way and are very easy to use.

You can use all the tools either individually or in combinations. For example, you can use the Smart Sharpen tool to increase the sharpness of an image, and the Liquify tool to move around its elements.

Transgenic cDNA and untransformed daffodils, Narcissus pseudonarcissus L., have been successfully regenerated after microprojectile bombardment of intact protoplasts. An average of 3-5% of the regenerated plants were transformed. The one transgenic plant regenerated from protoplasts prepared from non-transformed calli was also transgenic. Transgenic daffodils have been successfully regenerated after microprojectile bombardment of intact cuttings and by in vitro embryogenesis of the sepal explants. None of the regenerated transgenic lines displayed altered phenotypes. Each of these techniques gave transformed transgenic plants which proved to be fertile and have been successfully introgressed into the previously untransformed daffodil variety ‘Sam’. A transgenic line was also regenerated by in vitro embryogenesis. This line was not fertile and no transgenic seed was recovered. The levels of expression of the transgenes in the vegetative and floral tissues of the transgenic plants was evaluated by radioactive in situ hybridisation to gene-specific probes. Microscopic examination showed altered morphology of the floral meristem of at least one transgenic line and reduced fertility in some of these.
