What’s new in Elden Ring:
A lot of new things were shown during the Pax West session (see the post from earlier in the week), and the guys who were present had some thoughts to share about the presentation.
I’m glad that I finally managed to get a cool picture of the guy who made these rotating notes; he put together the translation on the fly. So finally, an official one!
First off, we have a nice new island map, with a line of three new dungeons across it (left side of the image) and a more detailed map with different icons to indicate a lot of small things you may not have noticed with the previous map.
The combat system is now back, with a totally revamped Disciplinary system that provides our combat classes special benefits and stats. Levels, just as for previous games, are now time-based, with a level 20 cap, and different levels and skills will have to be unlocked, as expected.
There’s also complete co-op and multi-play and the guys presented some specific examples (such as the white-haired Keeper being a tank), but they didn’t go into much detail.
Skill trees, which will be empty slots of pre-configured proficiencies, are also back, and you can now switch them at any time.
The crafting system also got a better revamp, with a new crafting table and easier recipes. The level cap will be 70, and the experts will be able to pick recipes at level 90, and that’s all I’ll say about this part, sorry.
There’s also a journal/chat now, along with the world map, and a new resurrection mechanic will be implemented. C’thun will also be available to players, whom you’ll now encounter in a variety of stages.
The guys talked a lot about skills during the presentation, and talked a lot about skills during the presentation, but they went into a lot more detail than I could convey here, unfortunately. Failed asylum seekers on Nauru are being locked in preventable tents that are leaking and unsuitable for long-term living, prompting calls for the Australian government to immediately transfer the detained children to Australia.
The former UN torture expert, Professor Celia Hammond, has described her former office in Geneva as “close to a secret prison”, after dozens of people were removed from the centre, including children, and held in a holding facility in the Philippines.
A secret internal UNHCR report obtained by Guardian Australia shows some people on Nauru told the agency their conditions were “hopeless” and “unjust”.
A total of 87 adults and 20 children were moved to the holding facility on 12 December.
The children’s former school teacher, Zane Hammerschlag, who was moved to the Philippines with her children after the government put her on a plane on 23 January, told Guardian Australia she believed they were not told why they were being moved or when they would be allowed to return to the island.
Hammerschlag has been left with the children, aged 12 and 15.
“The children on Nauru have been in this situation for an extended period of time and it is highly likely they are experiencing depression and anxiety,” the human rights lawyer Greg Barns said.
“It is incumbent on the Australian government to keep people informed about the state of the Nauru detention centre, and to ensure that they are not being held in preventable conditions.
“The number of tents meant to hold as many as 160 people has doubled. This means more people will be housed in tents that are leaking and fail to keep people cool.
“The conditions are inhumane, and the leaking tents don’t meet the standard of protection that is required under international law.”
Barns, who is the founding director of the Refugee Legal Centre, is going to the Philippines to visit the families in the holding facility with the aim of returning them to Australia and facilitating their lawful transfer to Australia.
“It is unacceptable for people to be held in limbo and kept in preventable conditions for the purposes of punishment,” he said.
“The government is detaining vulnerable people on a remote island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean for the purpose of political punishment and deterrence. They are following the example of the Trump administration with its chaotic and
