co-directors: nikhil lakhia has never been seen a better director. he blends the best of foreign and indian cinema in a way that is rare. his previous film, dharma, was a slow-paced thriller with a perfect blend of realism and fiction. while mission istanbul is a thriller with similar elements, it is a complete departure in the way it is shot. the film is shot in several places, some of which are just amazing. lakhia has made a thrilling film which is fun to watch.
music: the music, except for mika singh‘s songs, is a let down. the songs are good but the music is missing. the background score is also average. anu malik has composed music for dharma and that song ae dil hai mushkil is quite good. but then, anu is a very versatile composer. the songs from dharma are a big miss but his songs from dushman are wonderful. the songs from mission istanbul are very plain.
mission istanbul is a classy, fast-paced spy thriller that takes place in four continents. it stars vivek oberoi as an indian agent, shriya saran as his wife, and zayed khan as the villainous istaanbul. it’s the fourth collaboration between vivek oberoi and director apoorva lakhia, who directed the t series hit tum mile (2010). the film also stars arshad warsi, farooq qureshi, shweta tiwari, and manoj pahwa.
the film opens with vivek oberoi walking down a new delhi street with an unmarked briefcase. over the next few minutes, he is picked up by a motorcycle rider and taken to a nondescript office in istanbul. he is led to a room, where he is searched and his memory is wiped. vivek oberoi, a new delhi-based indian secret agent with impeccable manners and a sharp mind, is about to be launched on an opulent mission. he’s been recruited by his friend, a cia agent, to find his wife, who is being held hostage in istanbul. the journey begins.
