In this tutorial I’ll show you a simple and quick method for moving your Oculus data or even setting it up for the first time.
Working with the Oculus software
As of April 2019, Oculus Rift is only available for Windows, and its store is also currently locked to the Windows 10 operating system. But there are ways to make the software behave and look like it does on the surface.
Oculus Rift has no.exe or.msi files, and you can’t install the software on your own PC, so the software must be installed on your PC by a person with administrative rights on your machine.
The installation procedure involves accessing the Oculus software folder through the Windows file explorer (or you can copy-paste the folder to your Desktop), then copying the.dll and.oculus files to the Windows\System32 directory and finally, moving the folder to the Oculus software folder.
Windows file explorer is included in all versions of Windows operating system, but it is not installed by default.
Installing Windows file explorer
First we have to enable Show hidden files and folders option under View Tab in Windows 10.
Tools >> Folder Options >> View >> Tasks and Launch
Then click on Show hidden files and folders, and make sure it’s ticked.
Now we have to open Windows Explorer and type C:\Windows and press Enter.
Here you’ll find all the folders from your Windows installation.
Highlight the System32 folder and press Enter.
Once the System32 folder is highlighted, press Ctrl+A and select all the contents and paste the files to the System32 folder.
The files that have been moved to the System32 folder will be copied to your Oculus software folder.
Now everything is set up.
Open the Oculus folder and close all unnecessary tabs.
Right click and choose Properties
Click the Compatibility Tab and select Windows XP.
Click OK.
If the Oculus folder is set to Windows 7 or above, the box “Run this program from Windows 7 or above” will be checked.
