Linear Gradients are ones to use for bumping up the desaturated highlights and shadows on a photo. There are two new Fill dialog boxes, too. There’s the Fill dialog and its companion, the Gradient Fill dialog. In the Fill dialog, you adjust the type of fill, radial or linear, color, and gradient, where you enter the gradient. In the Gradient Fill dialog, you select the type of fill (gradient), the type of gradient (linear or radial), its color, and the border of the gradient.

The Sharpen tool now has a Preserve Edges button, which, when selected, adds a hint of sharpness to the edges of your image, making them more visible and cleaner. It covers the whole image, impacts the entire image, or stops at the edge of the image. You can use it to enhance anything. The Sharpen tool changes the Blur Stages dialog box. It appears that parameters associated with the Sharpening mode are now in the dialog box itself. This is where you determine the amount of adjustment at each stage.

There are a number of filters available. These are different types of effects that you can apply to your images. They can be very simple like a Gamma or Levels or more complex like the Distort and Markellet filters.

Whenever you have these features open, you could make a lot of changes in the filter dialog box. But, all the photographer has to do is to click on the eyedropper on the far right to switch the image from one filter (a filter example) to another filter without having to browse a tabbed dialog box.

Lets look again at the Image Properties, Image Filters tab. In the dialog box, you have the choice of applying a filter to the image. For example, you can choose from Image Effects, Adjustments, Filters, Adjustment Layers, and Adjustment Filters. Clicking on the eyedropper on the far right of the dialog box allows you to select a filter without having to browse the tabbed list.

Two of the filters that photographers often want to use are Selective Color or Soft Light. The Selective Color allows you to pick out and colorize certain elements of your photo. The Soft Light can be applied selectively to the tones in a photo and lighten and darken those parts of an image.

If you select the text tool, you’ll be able to edit the text in the image using its text tool. Once selected, you can click directly on the text to make adjustments. You can change the size and use advanced typographic tools like kerning and cross-out to add instructions or punctuation to your text.

Create a new layer and adjust the layer style as needed. To create a new layer, users click the Layer icon in the Layers palette. When a new layer is added, there are several available options. These include the ability to create layers for individual items, such as gradient fills, shape selections, or both. When a layer is in use, there are several options to resize the layer.
