a huge amount of time in saints row iv can be spent in conversations with other characters, and players are free to approach women in the street and start the conversation. they may have a ton of other things on their mind, but sometimes they will listen to whatever you have to say, and this openness is very welcome.

the developers of saints row iv took great care to make sure that the female characters behaved just as inappropriately as the men, but without sounding like a sexist game. while the men use guns to rack up points for style, women use guns to rack up style points. when you unleash an attack on their faces or pop a bag of drugs in their noses, they squeal and become more enthusiastic. the sanitation army might take pointy objects to the face, but you get funky credits by doing the same thing to the ladies. saints row iv is super sexy and inventive in this regard, and even its more conservative moments will make you look at everything you see in a new way.

even those who just want to shoot things up are given a choice in how they play the game. the saints row universe gets fleshed out at a very nice pace. missions are a bit more involved than before, but not much, and there are lots of optional side missions to keep you occupied. the story is very well written, and the saints row universe offers something for everyone. there is also some very clever use of the drug-induced special effects. like i said, i’m sure not everyone will be into it, but i can guarantee that those who are will have plenty to do.

it should be noted that most of the female characters in saints row the third are well represented in terms of their outfits. there are six outfits in the entire game, four of which are worn by femmes fatales. and theyre gorgeous outfits! femmes fatales are always sexy and that is what saints row the third tries to do well. it lets us chose between two different sets of outfits that are all sexy and in line with their character. volition attempted to improve on saints row the third early on with a few of the female character’s original outfits. too few to make a significant difference, unfortunately. the first outfit for one of the eight female characters is a bikini, complete with fishnets and a matching crop-top. it looks good, but it isn’t very flattering on anybody. the other six outfits are the aforementioned dresses in a variety of colors and styles, some crop tops, and a few short red jumpers. it seems like the costume department wouldn’t have been given any freedom to make a better selection of costumes without the all-female staff being excluded. i’m sure they would have loved to have made some more outfits, though.
an element that saints row the third would benefit from is a more polished interface for the customisation of outfit items. there is no official, easy interface for equipping a character. it can be done by applying the item to the character from one of the 4 slots on the character (or from the back of the character if the character is wearing a swimsuit), but that is not easy. occasionally, volition has made it seem as if you can equip the clothes from back of the character by clicking on the character from the back of his/her back, but there is no confirmation that this works. it may just be a glitch on my end. in its current state i find it very easy to lose all my customisation when i die, and it is quite a time consuming process to get things back.
