I have been searching online and have not found a suitable solution.

I have a window of opportunity as my laptop works in Win 10 and not 8 but I have limited time to get it working with 8.

For me, it worked perfectly (I am using Virtualbox) using this process:
Install Virtualbox (with the Debian package, or Virtualbox-OSE, if you prefer)
Create a new virtual machine (Ubuntu 16.04)
Connect to it with a VNC Client (TeamViewer, Remmina, etc.)
Start the conversion process by opening a terminal and typing:
sudo vboxmanage convertfromtib:
The tib files will be converted into a new vdi file in.vdi format.

The problem is that a ‘pivot’ usually means you’re starting from a dead end. Some people should avoid that kind of thinking.
I think that thinking is common in this domain.
That’s part of the problem. Some people are very good at thinking that way. I’m not in that camp but I can understand their thinking.

All this is coming from a libertarian and I’ll spare you the details of why. Basically, I’m a conservative but I’m not a GOP-aligned conservative. I’m an old-school, small-government kind of libertarian. My opinions on this issue aren’t uniform, so I’m trying to figure out which side of the isle I’m going to be on, whether it’s liberal or libertarian. Libertarian just means that the government should keep itself to a minimum, and the government should stay out of the lives of individuals. You could say that’s conservative, because our way of life was established by the conservatives. You could also say that it’s liberal, because the liberty they promote works against the big, dominant corporate entities that have usurped power from the people. The corporatist state is almost totalitarian, and Obama is taking us towards that. I don’t know if you can get there from here without a revolution, but
