the third part is the darklord rising.exe, which is a game version of warlords iii darklord rising. you can use it on your own pc, or if you are bored with it you can also use it in the internet version of warlords iii darklord rising. i think that a mod could be made with it, but it would be an awful lot of work, since the entire game would have to be changed. here in attach there is all necessary stuff to enjoy the game in a gorgeous high-quality mode and also gain some fame (after some testing) when announcing the dxwnd support to the community. i happily leave the honor to you.
the archive contains in practive what could be a new release of dxwnd with new exe and dlls, all files to be replaced in the current dxwnd folder. in addition there are two export files to ease the game configuration:
warlords iii darklord rising.dxw is the standard export file, with default settings and positioning at 50,50 and 800×600 window size
warlords iii darklord rising (hq).dxw is the high quality configuration, with settings for the best game quality (fake-fullscreen, bilienar filtering etc. see the notes in the configuration), provided that the computer has enough power (don’t worry, my below-average pc runs it with no pain).
i also had a look at the two cyberstorms episodes, but definitely these will require a separated (and long) new thread!

there are numerous types of units. infantry are tough, but slow. units in the middle of the table range are also slow but better than infantry. best for supporting heroes (though not as good as cavalry). units in the bottom half of the table are fast, though weaker than infantry. units in the top half of the table are medium-speed, faster than units in the middle but weaker than infantry. they are the best of the heavy stuff, and come in a variety of types. best for taking enemy units off the table and dealing with them in a single hit. units that move into the back ranks are slower than those in the front. best for counter-attacking. cavalry are fast, but not nearly as strong as the heavier units. they are the most mobile, and also useful for protecting allied units. towers provide a ranged attack bonus (some are magical). units that get captured lose a turn. special rules apply to some types of unit.

A handy morale bar indicates the fitness of each warlord. The AI does not demand this, and can spend its time and resources in other ways. However, it won’t use this as its primary mode of attack and does not spend most of its resources building defences. Your warlord’s fear is a constant condition, but this is balanced by the successes of your state. Hire heroes you meet either in city raids or from the open world can be hired on for a set time, then they will return to you with the rewards.

Warlords 3 is not a game about empire building per se – you can’t build roads, bridges or new cities – you can improve existing villages to towns, or towns to cities, but there’s not the development aspects ofHoMM2orCivilizationhere. There’s no research to be done either. The focus is instead on armies. There are no navies – all armies can sail in boats by (dis)embarking at a port or bridge – and there’s no movement penalty for doing so it seems. Flying units are also present, and very valuable, especially as flyers can carry heroes.
