The Mark-2 models were incapable of bulk displacement, leaving their creators to develop them into extremely mobile combat vehicles. The Mark-2 system was introduced in the same manner as the first-generation Jaegers, when large prototypes built for testing were sent to specific countries in the Pacific Rim.

The Mark-2 prototype used for the deployment was a Hummingbird-B, the small version of the Mark-1. Building on the success of the Mark-1, the Mark-2 was a far cry from the mobile equipment of the Mark-1. This Jaeger was far less capable than the Mark-1 and far more expensive to produce. As such, most of the Mark-2s were deployed around Kaiju during the Kaiju Crisis.

The Mark-3 Jaeger was created in the aftermath of the Kaiju Crisis and shared the human-driven aspect with its predecessors. As with the Mark-2, it was expensive to produce. Since most of their population were unable to afford its massive cost, it was put into servicment. The Mark-3 eventually served in various countries and was unquestionably successful until the events of the Kaiju Rising.

More Mark-3s were built for Japan after it emerged from the virus-induced state. Besides the continued production, there were several Mark-3s that were built in secret bases in the Western Pacific when they discovered a weakness in Kaiju’s intelligence by remaining underground. These M-3s were created to capitalize on the absence of Godzilla and the destruction of the military bases used during the Kaiju Crisis.

Despite these setbacks, the Pacific Rim’s Jaeger Program rapidly recovered. Six months after the Kaiju Crisis, the Defense Corps was quick to react after learning that the relevant government requested industrial output. This resulted in the production of the Mark-4 during the rush phase and the Mark-5 during the recuperation phase.
